Running Four Ventures as One Founder — What the Week Actually Looks Like

There's no tidy hour-by-hour schedule for running four ventures as one founder — that would be fabricated. Here's the honest version of what the work actually consists of.

I get asked, fairly often, what a typical week looks like running four ventures under one company. I want to answer that honestly, which means I'm not going to give you a tidy hour-by-hour breakdown — Monday 9am strategy, Tuesday 2pm engineering sprint, that sort of thing. That version would be easy to write and mostly fabricated, and fabrication is the one thing I've committed this whole site to avoiding. So this is the honest version instead: what the work actually consists of, and why it doesn't split evenly.

The four ventures aren't at the same stage, so the work isn't the same kind of work

That's the first thing that shapes the week more than anything else. Stack46 is a live agency without external clients yet, so the work there is real engineering and business-development effort with no client deadlines pulling at it — which means the discipline has to come from me, not from an external deadline. Cinevenn is pre-launch, so the work is build work: Next.js, React, FastAPI, MySQL, the actual construction of a platform that doesn't exist publicly yet. 46 Dogs has a live landing page with the full platform still in development, so the work there splits between the ongoing build and the parts of the mission — feeding, the groundwork for rescue partnerships — that aren't software work at all. Route46 is the only venture that is fully live and operating, which means its work is closer to maintenance, monitoring and improvement of something already running, rather than construction from nothing.

Four ventures, four completely different modes of work, in one week. That's the honest starting point.

Where the actual time goes

I'm not going to invent a specific hours breakdown across the four — I don't track my time that precisely, and I'd rather say that plainly than manufacture a number that sounds credible. What I can say honestly is that the balance shifts week to week depending on what each venture actually needs at that moment — a Cinevenn build milestone will pull more hours one week, a Route46 operational issue will pull more the next, and 46 Dogs' non-software mission work doesn't run on a schedule I control at all.

The team underneath Stack46 is small and deliberately so — a developer and a tester, both currently unnamed by choice, working alongside me. That's the entire build capacity across all four ventures right now. There isn't a separate team per venture. There's one team, and the ventures compete for its attention based on what's actually urgent, not based on a rota.

Four ventures don't need four equal weeks, they need one honest one.

What actually makes this manageable

The thing that makes running four ventures as one founder possible at all isn't time management — it's that they share almost everything underneath the surface. They share one legal entity, FourSix46® Global Ltd, so there's no duplicated administrative or legal overhead per venture. They share one engineering team and one engineering standard, via Stack46, so I'm not context-switching between four different quality bars. And they share one honesty standard across how I talk about all of them — I'm not maintaining four different public personas with four different levels of exaggeration to keep straight, which is its own kind of overhead I've simply removed from the week entirely.

What doesn't get shared is attention. Cinevenn's pre-launch build genuinely needs sustained focus to move forward. 46 Dogs' mission work genuinely can't be automated or delegated away yet. Route46's live operations genuinely need monitoring that can't wait for a convenient week. So the honest description of a week running four ventures isn't a schedule — it's a constant, ongoing negotiation between four things that are all real and none of which is finished, done by one team that's still small enough that I know exactly what each one actually needs, because I'm doing or reviewing most of it myself.

I'd rather tell you that than give you a fictional calendar. The calendar would be more satisfying to read. It wouldn't be true, and on this site, true is the only standard I'm working to.
